Careers You Can Pursue After Studying Cosmetology

    Last updated 2 years ago

After earning your degree in cosmetology, you have the opportunity to pursue a number of exciting and high-earning careers. The U.S. Department of Labor projects demand for hairdressers, cosmetologists, skin care specialists, shampooers, and manicurists to grow anywhere from 10% to 20% this decade. The field also ranks high in job satisfaction surveys, according to USNews.com. The career services programs at Florida Career College can help guide you onto a career path in cosmetology that has openings for success:

    • Colorist
A colorist specializes in the techniques and applications of hair coloring. A colorist is a salon’s go-to person for highlighting, lowlighting, corrective coloring, color touch-ups, virgin color applications, and other related services. A colorist works almost exclusively on color and achieving the desired coloring effect for their clients.
    • Platform Artist
A platform artist is a hairstylist in the spotlight. Performing on stages at industry events, beauty shows, and educational seminars, these stylists entertain audiences and educate fellow cosmetologists. Platform artists are a quadruple threat: part educator, part salesperson, part hair entertainer, and, of course, part hairdresser.
    • Cosmeceutical Salesperson
Cosmeceutical refers to a blending of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. A specialist in cosmeceutical sales is an expert on beauty products that include medicinal-like qualities, like state-of-the-art skin conditioning and anti-aging creams. There is more marketing than medicine to this job, however, and the product claims are often not verified by the FDA or the FTC. Nevertheless, this could be an exciting breakout field for an exceptional cosmetologist.

The School of Cosmetology at Florida Career College offers specialist programs in skin and nail care, cosmetology, and barbering to prepare you for a future in this energetic and exciting industry.
